Rogue B&R Bar 2.0

The Classic, Bare Steel Burgener & Rippetoe Bar, Now Made in Columbus

Version 2.0 of the B&R Bar is built to the specifications of the bar’s original designers—strength training coaches Mike Burgener and Mark Rippetoe—with some enhancements from Rogue’s in-house manufacturing team. Along with custom-tailored dual knurl marks for Olympic lifting and powerlifting (including a passive center knurl), the bar now features a stronger 205 KSI shaft and an updated snap ring design. Quality bronze bushings produce a smooth, reliable spin, and the natural steel creates a great, old-school look and feel that few chrome/plated finishes can compete with.

The B&R 2.0 is a 20KG barbell with 16.25” of loadable sleeve length. Because of its versatility, it’s a great addition to a garage gym or a larger training facility or CrossFit box.

Please Note: Like any fine piece of machined steel, the bare steel on the B&R Bar will require some upkeep. Occasionally brushing the bar down with 3-in-1 oil or WD-40 will create a beautiful patina look. This is how bars were made for decades and it really does produce an unmatched feel.

F Scale™
The F Scale™ is a durability scale for barbells based on functional testing at stresses similar to what barbells experience when being dropped from overhead. Bars that have been treated with Rogue Work Hardening (RWH™) are designated by having an R in their F Rating™. For more information on F Scale™ click here.

Oxidation Rate
The resistance of a barbell to oxidation depends on the type of steel and the coating. Barbells at the lower end of the spectrum will require more care and maintenance to preserve their appearance than barbells at the upper end of the spectrum.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressed! The bar was in my hands 3 days from placing the order. It is everything I hoped it would be and then some. I have been on starting strength for 2 months and needed to upgrade my cheap 300lb bar that got me started as my deadlift is quickly approaching 300lb. The knurl is very nice and provides a much better grip than what i had been using but it is not too sharp where it digs into your back on squats like some more aggressive bars i have used years ago. The feel is incredibly solid. I love this bar and think it is perfect for me. As another reviewer said, I hope to pass it down to my son one day. Great product Rouge!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for strength training I received the B&R Bar 2.0 from Rogue one month ago and have put in several training sessions with it by now. It has exceeded all my expectations. I was looking for a strength training bar with no whip and a center knurl for heavy back squats. The Ohio Power Bar also fits this need, but due to its more aggressive knurl may not be as versatile if you also want to perform cleans while using a hook grip. Plus it also has markings for Olympic lifts as well. The standard Rogue knurl and raw steel finish provide an outstanding feel in your hands. This spin is excellent, even better then the Ohio Bar that Ive had for three years. Quality is outstanding, I recommend this bar.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Barbell I've been using my new B&R bar for about a month for Starting Strength in our home gym. I was finding it difficult to grip the bar for deadlift at about the 340lb mark using an ancient (but free) cap bar. This bar is much easier to hold onto as the knurling is very 'sticky' under the load. The B&R bends a lot less for squat which I prefer as well. The bar has been kept in a garage in Austin and is just barely begun rusting. I don't think it'll be a problem to keep up with. Overall I think this bar is great for its intended purpose and it is the finest I've ever used. It's hard to imagine using even an average quality bar again. Thank you, Rogue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible My dad got this for me as my Christmas present this year, and it's the single nicest bar I've ever held. The knurling is perfect - not a hint of the slipperiness that accompanies zinc or chrome plating. It feels glued to your hand. The bushings don't make a sound, and the sleeves spin forever. I'm not sure what else to say that hasn't already been said in these comments, but the quality of this bar blows me away. Out of the package, there was a fine layer of oil, and a glitter of very tiny steel shavings (this thing was obviously fresh out of the machine shop), but that just gave me an excuse to spend some get-to-know-you time brushing it down with a stiff-bristle brush and wiping down with a cloth.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid. I bought this bar with the intent that it be the last bar I ever NEED to buy (I could always WANT another). If it stays in good condition, I think it will be. As another commenter stated, I can't imagine this is good for Olympic lifts. The bar is NO WHIP. Fortunately, I bought it for Starting Strength work so the no whip is a positive. One thing the descriptions don't mention is the grooved sleeves. Some people don't like them. I don't think I care either way, but others should know before they buy. Time will tell if I can keep the bar in good condition in terms of oxidation/rust. I do have 3-1 oil and a brush and will do my best, but this bar is in my Pittsburgh basement so....DAMPNESS ABOUNDS. But if I keep her oiled up and clean, she SHOULD be something I pass down to my son.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Real dimensions If you look at the dimensions given and add them up, it will appear that the distance between collars is too narrow to work comfortably on any Rogue rack. The dimensions shown are wrong. The bar is not 7' (or 84") long. it is 86.5" long. This leaves 51.5" between sleeves--plenty of length to rack it. I LOVE THIS BAR. The knurl and bare steel are great. Your hands will not slide. And yet easy on the hands. The center knurl is great for back squats.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just about perfect This is a fantastic barbell. My primary use for it is powerlifting movements, not oly lifts, and it excels in every way for powerlifting. Which probably isn't terribly surprising given the names attached to the design of this bar. The knurling is spot on and the lack of whip is a huge help. It's also incredibly strong. My only issue is that the bar is listed as an olympic lifting bar in the description. That should probably be removed. Powerlifting? Absolutely. Weightlifting? Yep. Multipurpose? Sure. Olympic lifting? Nope. The lack of whip and the center knurling pretty much rule this out as an oly bar. If you're doing Starting Strength, Stronglifts, 5/3/1, PHAT, PPL, etc., then you will not be disappointed with this purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everything you need and nothing you don't. This bar is built like a tank. Knurling is unreal. I was worried the center knurl would scrape my neck during cleans but it doesn't. This bar simply makes you want to lift. All day. Every day. Tell your friends you'll see them never. All your time will now be spent getting stronger.
