Cerakote Strength + Custom Colors

This version of the Ohio Bar is distinct for its use of an advanced ceramic-based coating, originally established in the gun industry for its remarkable durability in thin applications. This unique finish can deliver superb abrasion/wear/corrosion resistance over time—100X that of standard black zinc—and it’s available to order in a range of exclusive colors, with the Rogue logo branded on the center of the shaft. See the menu for current color combination options.

Steel

This steel is manufactured in the US and has proven to be one of the best steel variants for a multi-purpose barbell.

Each barbell shaft is ground and polished prior to machining which allows the bar to have a very smooth finish.

Machining & Assembly

Every bar shaft is machined in Columbus, Ohio, with painstaking attention to detail. The knurling has been carefully refined over the years, as well, for a firm but non-abrasive grip (there is no center knurl). We assemble the Ohio Bar with a snap ring design and quality composite bushings, which act as bearing surfaces between the bar sleeve and bar shaft, producing normal “whip” during Oly weightlifting but enough stiffness to hold for heavy powerlifting.

F SCALE™

The F Scale™ is a durability scale for barbells based on functional testing at stresses similar to what barbells experience when being dropped from overhead. Bars that have been treated with Rogue Work Hardening (RWH™) are designated by having an R in their F Rating™. For more information on F Scale™ click here.

OXIDATION RATE

The resistance of a barbell to oxidation depends on the type of steel and the coating. Barbells at the lower end of the spectrum will require more care and maintenance to preserve their appearance than barbells at the upper end of the spectrum.

*Warranty against bending does not cover any bar which has been damaged due to negligent or faulty use, alteration, maintenance, storage or handling by the user. Negligent or faulty use includes abusive dropping of the bar (i.e., dropping the bar on a box, bench, spotter arms or pins in a power rack, excessive dropping with insufficient or damaged bumpers, or excessive dropping with iron plates, and similar usage). Any specific issues regarding a Rogue product with which a customer is not satisfied will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We have found that most problems with bars we replace are related to abusive use rather than manufacturing or materials issues.

Please Note: Cerakote has an excellent resistance to corrosion, but metal-to-metal contact, particular on the sleeves, can still cause wear over time. For the best long term results, some cleaning and maintenance may be required. See our Ohio Bar Care Page for more info.

My review (opinion)
It’s awesome. I’m new to barbells so I don’t know if it’s normal but I had to get used to the bit of play on the bar bushings before you feel the weight of the plates. The grip pattern is excellent for grip, obviously.

Solid barbell. Great color
Very happy that I upgraded to this barbell. I especially like the ribbed ends that keep the plates on without a collar. A added bonus for sure! Solid feel, great knurling. I use it about 5 days a week and each time it feels like new.

Amazing Bar
The bar arrived within days of purchase (unlike shipping at some of the other guys) and it was well packaged. The bar was flawless and has an excellent feel to it. The coating somewhat dulls the knurling but it has enough grip. I’ve been using it for powerlifting and in my Landmine (also Rogue which I highly recommend). Overall a solid purchase.

Love my Rogue Ohio Bar Cerakote (Black & Red)
I bought the Rogue Ohio Bar Cerakote (Black & Red) version along with the Rogue Curl Bar (Cerakote) for my home gym and I absolutely love them. This is definitely a top-quality bar. I use it primarily for everything and it's my daily use bar for Bench, Squat, Deadlift, Shoulder Press, etc. It's been well worth the money. I am 100% convinced to get my next barbell soon in full Black.

Slight disappointment
This is my 7th rogue barbell I have purchased. It is the only one I have had a mild disappointment with. The knurks are the perfect blend of grip without cutting into my hands. The barbell seems to have a decent whip and being from Pittsburgh whats not to like about black and gold. The only downside is the friction with putting on the weights. Rogue has told me this bar is slightly different then the other bars I have purchased and it is intentionally sticky to hold the plates more securely. I collar everything so the stickiness is more annoying then useful for me personally.

Very Happy
I bought this a few weeks ago and I couldn’t be happier! I have been using a very old generic bar for years. Honestly I never thought there was any difference. After reading many of these reviews I decided to bite the bullet and purchase one! I was very surprised at just how much of a difference I could tell between the 2 bars. Obviously the look but the feel! The bushing on my old bar were so worn out and I just thought it felt “normal” to me at least . Until i did some clean jerks, and wow what a difference. Packaging was great, shipping was even better. Very very happy with this purchase.

Hard to keep clean, poor coating of cerakote
The bar treated me right for a while but then chipped after I tried to clean it. I live in a humid climate (and have sweaty hands) so I use a decent amount of chalk. I would brush (using a nylon brush) the barbell and use oil on it every month or so. Eventually, the chalk build up was not going away and started to show signs of rust. I tried all different sorts of brushing but could never get the chalk or rust to fully go away. I finally resorted to soaking the shaft in a diluted white vinegar mixture. This was a bad idea as the cerakote began chipping away. This is surprising as white vinegar would not cause any damage to guns coated in cerakote but that's not the case with this weak coating of cerakote. Now I have parts of my barbell showing bare metal. The bar is fine if you don't ever use chalk. But if you do use chalk and don't clean it after every workout, eventually chalk and rust will build up and it is practically impossible to deeply clean it

Thank you for taking the time to post this! Here is what we recommend for keeping our bars clean: 1) Use a dry nylon bristle brush to remove the outer layer of chalk. 2) Wipe down the bar with a 3-in-One Oil and brush into the knurl with the nylon bristle brush. The steel will soak the oil in and the bar will stay healthy. 3) Wipe off any excess oil and chalk with a dry towel.
